JBJ Sports. Welcome.

Welcome to JBJ Sports. Is it ever not sport’s season? Not here.

Here we have comprehensive coverage of athletics, from Seattle to Tampa and everywhere in between (probably outside that realm too, but that just sounded good, like the worst Seahawks/Bucs road trip). You’ll get previews, news, opinion, top-25 polls and the occasional rants.

As we continue on look for audio and video, but for now look especially for links, both inside and outside the sports world, as well as coverage from each of our backgrounds. Tell your friends, tell your parents, tell people you pass on the street, with the exception of Oregon, Alabama (probably Florida too, for Jim at least) and maybe Duke, everything will be unbiased. The hatred is for the comments thread. Welcome to the next best thing after, well, yeah we’re not planning on anything being better. We might even give you a chance to rename us. For now, just meet us:

Jesse BaumJesse Baumgartner, a sportswriter, North Carolina grad (Tar Heel Born, Tar Heel Bred, someday he’ll be a Tar Hell dead) and oft-incredulous sports debater is the “sportswriter” part of our trio. He spent four years covering the UNC athletic department, including two trips to the final four, a men’s basketball national championship, as well as some in smaller sports and one tail-whippin’ by Kansas in the Final Four. He may even have had the “editor” title at one point. Stay tuned for the personal introduction for our resident journalist.

Remind you of the Sports Guy?

Remind you of the Sports Guy?

Jim Cain, a senior at Tennessee, Knoxville (Rocky Top), is the die hard. Five minutes talking to this guy and you’ll either want him to marry your daughter or want to push him out of Mark Cuban’s suite right along with T.O. and John Rocker. No one advocates the SEC more than him. When Tennessee lost at Rick Neuheisal-led UCLA last fall he had multiple friends call to check on him. Asked him for a bio and he sent one sentence and a poll. He will most definitely be the most-commented writer.

BentonI am Benton Strong, the “insider”. Four years in the Athletic Communications office at the University of Washington (where currently no football teams are Bowing Down, but Florida softball is), including time in the locker rooms, play-by-play for football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball. I’ve also worked for the Sonics, Seahawks, Mariners, the Pac-10, ESPN, Fox Sports and Comcast. I am a former athlete and two sport coach. One more step and they would call me a jersey chaser. As it stands, Jesse, Jim and I just spend our time arguing, watching and reporting sports.

This is about you, the reader. Not just any other blog either. Watch out for guest appearances from people better than us. But tell us what you need. We’ll find it. And the best places to eat in every college football town? Pat Forde ain’t got nothin’ on us.

Up next: Our first Top-25 polls of the year. Weekly, with explanations after week one. In the words of the Joker: Here, we, go…
